In 2018, a series of devastating earthquakes tore through North Lombok, Indonesia - collapsing homes, livelihoods, and every single classroom at Rempek 1 Primary School.
The community rebuilt. The children returned. But the classrooms were never enough.
178 students crammed into spaces built for far fewer. Learning happened anyway - because it had to. But cramped, overcrowded rooms aren't just uncomfortable. They steal focus, dampen curiosity, and quietly tell children that their education isn't worth investing in.
We believed otherwise.
Through our partnership with Classroom of Hope, Benchmark Group funded the construction of two brand-new classrooms at SDN 1 Rempek - and a second school facing the same struggle nearby.
Built from certified recycled plastic blocks, these classrooms are earthquake-safe, designed to last over 100 years, and remove more than three tonnes of plastic waste from the environment in the process. Every desk, chair, fan, and whiteboard was included. Every detail considered.
Because children who have already survived so much deserve nothing less.
